Newly arrived students

As a new student, there are certain final registration steps you will need to complete.

Your campus ID card gives you access to:

Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre

Fitness facilities, fitness classes and varsity sports games.

Exams and tests

Must show valid student ID.

Meal plans

Residence dining plans, voluntary meal plans and flex dollars.

Information Technology (IT) Service Desk

IT-related support online, in person or over the phone.

Learning tool pickup

University-owned laptop or tablet pickup.

Library resources

Borrowing materials, using equipment and booking rooms.

Off-campus retail discounts

Student Centre

Student Health Benefit Plan

Supplemental health insurance coverage.

Transit discounts

U-Pass and other discounts.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology offers students different technology-enriched learning environment (TELE) models depending on faculty.

Full TELE model 

Students in the Full TELE model will be provided with a university-owned laptop for use in their academic studies.

Faculties included in the Full TELE model for the 2017-2018 academic year:

Register for your laptop pickup.

BYOD TELE model

Students participating in the BYOD TELE model will bring their own laptop to use in their academic studies.

Faculties included in the BYOD TELE model for the 2017-2018 academic year:

Laptop (learning tool) distribution periods - full TELE model

Fall

Mid-August to end of September (laptop registration required).

Winter

Early to mid-January (laptop registration required).

Spring

Early to mid-May (laptop registration required).

Summer

Middle to end of June.

Your network password allows you to connect to Blackboard, UOITnet email and the UOIT Network (wireless Internet and campus computers).

If you have received your university laptop (learning tool), your network password will already have been changed for you. If not, follow the instructions below:

Step 1

  • Go to the Learning Commons (IT Service Desk)

Gordon Willey Building, South Wing

Step 2

  • Go to the self-service kiosks on the right. 
  • Enter your student ID number and select IT Services.
  • A receipt will be printed.
  • Take receipt and wait until your number is shown on big screens over the IT Service Desk.

Must have government-issued photo ID (e.g. passport) and student number.

Step 3

IT support will set up your network password.

Once you have your network password, you can log onto any campus computer, Blackboard, UOITnet email and use campus Wi-Fi.

Once you have set up your network password, you can access campus Wi-Fi on your various electronic devices (e.g. laptop, Android device, iPhone, iPad, etc.)

To do this, you must select Configure Wireless Access for each device.
